Turnip Today, I will talk about turnips. Do you like turnips? It is said that turnips'original country is Afghanistan. They were introduced into Japan in the 7th century from China. And in Europe, they are one of the oldest vegetables to be cultivated. Moreover, they are traditionally used in Celtic festivals as lanterns, like pumpkins for Halloweeen.In many countries, they are eaten. For example, In Russia, when Russian people cook borscht, they add turnips. Of course in Japan, Japanese people cook pickled turnips. Or when they cook miso soup, they sometimes add turnips. In Japan, the most cultivating prefecture is Chiba, and next is Saitama, and the third is Aomori. In Japan, there is the festival called thet festival of seven herbs. One of the herbs is turnips called suzuna.
